About Gwen Hering

Prior to joining the Morning Star team in 2019, I worked for 16 years at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Health & Counseling Services (UHCS). I obtained my undergraduate degree from UW-Whitewater in physical and health education. I returned to UW-Whitewater and graduated in 2003 with my graduate degree in community counseling.

The name of Gwen’s practice is Holistic Living Psychotherapy, LLC. She chose the word Holistic because she views people’s overall health and wellness as consisting of a variety of life modalities: physical, mental, emotional, social, spiritual, occupational, and environmental.

Philosophy of Care

I use what I refer to as a person-centered holistic approach. I view people’s overall health as consisting of their mental and emotional, physical, social, and spiritual wellness. Within this framework, I use strategies that best fit with the unique needs of each person I work with while also viewing our therapeutic relationship as the primary catalyst for change. I like to refer to our work together as “team-work,” where I have the opportunity to serve as an assistant in helping people recognize and apply their many strengths that can help manage life’s challenges in the healthiest ways possible.

I have additional training in MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction), trauma informed care, eating disorders and body-image issues, and those who identify as LGBTQ*. I am also a Reiki practitioner, an Access Bars Practitioner, and an ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy) practitioner.
