Philosophy of Care
I have no one approach in working with individuals or couples other than to attend and engage each client, meeting them where he/she is in the life journey. I begin with establishing a basis of trust and mutual respect, and believe that this sets the foundation for our thoughtful work together. I envision myself as a guide more than a facilitator with clients, and firmly believe that each individual has inherent worth, insight and the ability to resolve many of life’s obstacles. Each individual is empowered through the therapeutic process, and issues of shame, self-esteem and trauma are carefully explored.
My approach is that each individual has a unique set of values and beliefs, and that in aiding clients to better understand and develop their own self will lead to greater acceptance and appreciation of themselves. I am LGBT friendly, and open and affirming to all individuals that I work with.
My life experience has provided me an understanding that there is no one path and I work with each individual at their pace, their comfort of disclosure, and their place. I welcome clients that are new to the therapeutic experience.
In working with families and couples, I am inclined to examine the client’s role within his/her family and the way that this role impacts self-perception and the overall family dynamic. An increased understanding of this couple/family role affords the opportunity for improved relationships, boundaries and communication. Those who work with me will find safety, patience, tolerance, and an environment that I am hopeful will foster great potential for personal growth and insight.
